BTCCSquare news:

UK regulators have intensified their clampdown on unlicensed cryptocurrency operations with the seizure of seven crypto ATMs and the arrest of two individuals in southwest London. The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), in collaboration with the Metropolitan Police, conducted raids across four locations as part of an investigation into an unregistered exchange network allegedly flouting anti-money laundering regulations.

Since January 2021, the FCA has mandated that all cryptoasset exchange providers and kiosk operators register with the agency and implement stringent customer due diligence measures. These include verifying fund origins and preventing machines from being exploited for illicit financial activities. Therese Chambers, the FCA's executive director of enforcement, emphasized that unregistered crypto ATMs "only support crime," noting that no legally compliant machines currently operate in the UK.

While the two suspects have been released pending further investigation, the operation sends a clear warning to unauthorized operators. Violators face severe penalties, including potential imprisonment, though no formal charges have been filed in this case yet.
